The Kayan Mentarang National Park is the largest conservation area on the island of Borneo. It is not only an area covered with rich montane tropical forests and extraordinary biodiversity, it is also the land of the Dayak people where history and culture have helped shape the natural landscape.
The Kayan Mentarang National Park straddles the far interior of East Kalimantan bordering Sarawak (Malaysia) to the west and Sabah (Malaysia) to the north. Over 60% of the park area lies within the boundaries of the District of Malinau. Some areas of the park are ideal spots for ecotourism expeditions, traditional Dayak culture, river adventures and forest trekking. The sub-districts of Pujungan and Bahau Hulu, District of Malinau, are located in the very far interior of Borneo. This is part of the Heartland of Dayak Kenyah and other groups who settled this area since hundreds of years ago.

West Papua : From Mountain View to Underwater World Paradise

image West Papua is a province of Indonesia on the western end of Papua island. It covers the Bird’s Head (or Doberai) Peninsula and surrounding islands. The province has a population of approximately 800,000, making it one of the least populous of all Indonesian provinces. The capital of West Papua is in Manokwari.
Getting there:
By plane : Batavia Air and Merpati Air serve daily flights to and from Manokwari via Makassar. The Airport is about 7 km from down town. The cab is available in the airport.
Tourism Events
Tifa dance, Tari Api (Fire Dance) and Tari Mayai Marowa (Dance to celebrate winning of a war) are the West Papua’s dances which can be seen in a cultural performance.

Gunung Krakatau

Krakatau might have come closer than any other volcano in recent history to destroying the planet when it erupted in 1883. Tens of thousands were killed either by the resulting tidal wave or by pyroclastic flows that crossed 40km of ocean to incinerate Sumatra coastal villages. Afterwards all that was left was a smoldering caldera where a cluster of uninhabited island had once been, perhaps peace had come, thought local village. But Krakatau. Like all scrappy villains, re-awoke in 1927 and resulting eruptions built a new volcanic cone since christened Anak Krakatau.

Tours to the island start on Banten or from Kalianda on the Lampung coast. Organized tours typically cost US$100 per person. Hotel Beringin in Kalianda might also be able to organize a tour.

You can also join up with weekenders chartering boats from Canti, a fishing villages outside of Kalianda, or from Pulau Sebesi. To go to Kalianda you can take buses from Bandar Lampung buses station in Rajabasa. Or from Bakauheni ferry terminal to Kalianda. There also cargo boats from Canti, to nearby Sebuku and Sebesi. Canti itself can be reach by public bus.

The East Nusa Tenggara province consist over 550 islands, but its dominated by the three main islands Flores, Sumba, and Timor. Formerly known as Sandal wood Island, Sumba is now famous for its horses and it superb style for ikat cloth. West Sumba is famous for its enormous megalithic tombs and traditional thatched and peaked huts raised on stilts. Timor is the principal island in the province in terms of population and it is here that the provincial capital of Kupang is located.
